Oh smoothies, how do I love thee? Let me count the reasons:
- It’s the perfect on-the-go breakfast!
- The flavor possibilities are endless!
- The kids love them!
- They’re full of healthy ingredients!
- It’s the perfect way to cool down after a workout!
- They make delicious snacks!
- They’re wholesome and filling!
- They can be tailored to your dietary needs!
- They can be made into popscicles!
- They’re the perfect excuse to eat dessert any time of day!
On that note, let’s hone in on this Red Velvet Smoothie. This week, I asked you to shout out your favorite desserts on my Facebook page so I could craft one of them into a healthy, decadent smoothie. My mouth was watering at the responses I received. S’mores, Bananas Foster, Red Velvet…
At the draw of a hat, it was Red Velvet for the win, and I immediately got to work in the kitchen. Red Velvet is typically a chocolate-based cake so I knew I had that component locked in with the chocolate-flavored Classic Protein powder packet that was included in a pack of goodies Sunwarrior sent to me. I foresee a possible giveaway coming! Keep reading!
I contemplated using beets to redden things up just like I did for these Red Velvet Whoopie Pies. But I used strawberries instead because they pair so well with chocolate. I also threw in a frozen banana for added bulk and creaminess, nut butter and cocoa powder for richness, and creamy coconut milk (the kind you find in the dairy aisle) to get things moving in the blender.
Within 5 minutes, I was sipping the silkiest, most indulgent-tasting smoothie and smiling at all the wholesome and healthy benefits of the sweet treat. Thanks to the addition of Sunwarrior Classic Chocolate Protein, I was able to keep this smoothie gluten free, soy free, dairy free, and allergy friendly.
Since I’d had just gotten back from Turbokick class (my absolute fave workout!), this Red Velvet smoothie was just what I needed to cool off and refuel my body with clean, all natural foods. In fact, Sunwarrior creates an entire line of raw, plant-based protein powders and supplements, perfect for muscle-building, weight-loss, recovery, and more. Ive been really into green smoothies lately, so frozen zucchini, spinach, and sweet peas have been in the mix with cashew milk and protein powder. I usually throw in a little dry jello pudding mix to thicken it up and add a fun flavor twist. Thanks for the giveaway!
